Sleep is the single most effective thing we can do to reset our brain and body health each day.

A balanced diet and exercise are of vital importance, yes. But the physical and mental impairments caused by one night of bad sleep dwarf those caused by an equivalent absence of food or exercise.”

How can smart home products help with some of these issues,
and how can the smart home be better connected to sleep health?

Sen optimizes the sensory cues that promote healthy sleep habits.

It's equipped with temperature control modules that raise or lower the temperature
of your pillow depending on sensory input. It also contains speakers and a Bluetooth
connection to other smart-home products, enabling remote control from your bed.

User testing and prototyping

Having researched different ways to regulate temperature, I decided to build a grid of Peltier modules for next-to-skin, real-time temperature adjustment. I 3-d printed small models of these modules and built an appearance (and sensory prototype) to ensure my component stack-ups wouldn't compromise comfort.

Interface prototyping

I wanted to enable remote control of connected products from the pillow
without the use of a screen. Thus, the interface for core functionality
is build directly into the architecture of the pillow.
